Starting March 3, 2014, physicians who successfully complete NIH's Protecting Human Research Participants on-line tutorial will be able to earn up to 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for continuing medical education (CME). This opportunity was developed through a partnership between NIH and the University Health Services Professional Education Programs (UHS–PEP) of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health System, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide CME credit for medical educationactivities.

After the CME option begins on March 3, 2014, individuals will be able to indicate during the PHRP course registration that they wish to earn CME credit. Upon successful completion of the course, CME eligible individuals will be able to access a link under the Certificate logo on the right hand side of the main menu to request CME credit. Clicking on the CME link will take such individuals to VCU's registration system to request their CME credit. Note that VCU charges a $25 fee for CME credit recording.

Those who registered and completed the PHRP training BEFORE March 3, and who wish to earn CME credit will be able to do so by logging into the course, choosing the "Renew my Certificate" option and retaking the course. Note that the "Renew my Certificate" option wipes out all prior course completion data and you will no longer have access to your previously earned certificate. After successfully completing the course, individuals will then be able to access the CME link from the main menu as noted above and will also have access to a new completion Certificate.
